12.15. Back drum-type brakes



1. Remove a wheel and a brake drum.

If the brake drum is difficult for removing, evenly screw bolts in carving openings for screws of fastening of a brake drum.

2. After an otvorachivaniye of nuts, remove a back nave with a brake drum.
3. Remove the bottom and top returnable springs.

4. Remove assembled brake shoes and a regulator.



1. Measure internal diameter of a brake drum. The indicator of hour type check palpation of a brake drum. Replace a brake drum if internal diameter of a drum exceeds maximum permissible value.

    Diameter of a brake drum: 228,6 mm The most admissible diameter of a brake drum: 229,6 mm

2. Measure thickness of overlays of back brake shoes. Replace all brake shoes on one axis of the car even if only one block has thickness, smaller maximum permissible.

    Thickness of overlays of brake shoes: 4,45 mm Minimum admissible thickness of overlays of brake shoes: 1,5 mm

3. Check uniformity of a prileganiye of a brake shoe to a brake drum.

4. Outside check a brake drum on absence of excessive corrosion and damages.
5. Check a basic plate on lack of wear or damages.



1. With greasing grease the following points of contact of brake shoes:

    Points of contact of brake shoes with a brake board. Points of contact of brake shoes with an anchor plate.

The recommended lubricant: SAE J310, NLGI No. 2

2. Establish a rack of support of a brake shoe.

3. Establish returnable springs on brake shoes.

Шплинт and a cap of a nave should not be reused.

4. Measure external diameter of the established brake shoes and a regulator modify the size (227,6–228,1 mm).

5. After installation of a brake drum several times tighten the lever of the parking brake.
